Cyprus International Institute for the Environment and Public Health (Harvard)

The Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (“CII” or “the Institute”) is an international research, education and technology initiative for the environment and public health. The Institute was established by the Government of Cyprus and Harvard University to address environmental and public health issues in Cyprus and throughout a broad region, including the eastern Mediterranean, northern Africa and the Middle East.

The Institute offers two postgraduate MSc programs - one in Environmental Health and another in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Either program can be completed in one calendar year. Both are taught in English.

The faculty members conduct research on environment and public health. The primary focus of the Institute’s research is on improving understanding of the relationship between exposure to environmental contaminants and human disease. A secondary emphasis is on improving the ways that such information is used to inform public policy.

Recently the Institute has begun to offer research training leading to the PhD in environmental health.

Each year since 2005 the Institute has offered continuing education programs, lecture series and seminars for academics and for the public.

The Institute is led by Professor John Evans. Its activities are overseen by the six-member CII Steering Committee. The scientific integrity of its programs of education and research is evaluated by the CII Science Advisory Board.
